Forums Launch: Enabling Structured EOS Project Discussions

The intention is to be a free, community site for all DApps to set up their own areas, and going forwards all key updates and content discussions for Chintai will be encouraged to move onto the forum.

The Chintai project community forum has gone live on here.

We feel it's important for distributed projects to structure the community discussions clearer and in a way that people can later understand why decisions have been made - unlike Telegram channels where so much high quality information is lost forever.

Our new forum is based on a decentralized way of thinking, in that leaders emerge through leading by example, rather than by any type of coercive power. As members become trusted regulars over time, they earn abilities to help maintain their community.

The trust level for all users start at trust level 0 and you are upgraded based on your comomunity engagement.

The different trust levels and how they operate.

The only users that are automatically upgraded to Trust level 4, are the DAPP owners to allow them certain privileges to maintain and moderate their own DAPP categories and community.

What can a DAPP owners do on our forum:

Each DAPP owner will be given their own categories to allow for discussoin around their project. Categories like:

  • General
  • DEV
  • Governance
  • FAQ

We will create more categories as the forum grows and the community/DAPP owners see a requirement.

Some of the abilities DAPP owners will have within their mini communities are:

  • Pin topics to the top of a category.
  • Edits posts universally.
  • Turn posts into Wiki's.
  • Access to a private forum called DAPP owners.
  • and more....

How is the forum moderated.

The forum will start with one or two moderators that will have the ability to perform certain moderations tasks on the forum, but as the forum grows and users upgrade to higher trust levels, so does their ability to perform moderation tasks.

Eventually users can be voted in as moderators by the community.

Apart from the general moderators and trusted users, each user has the ability to flag a post for the attention of a moderator or truster user. This brings a natural way of suppressing spam and dangerous content, and amicably resolve disputes on their own.

What are Post Wiki’s?

If a post is found to be very useful and requires some collaborative working, it can be turned into a Wiki post. Anyone with trust level 3 or higher can convert a post into a wiki. This allows for collaberative working on gonvernance and DEV documsnts as an example.

The great thing about wiki posts are it keeps a historical record of all changes using revision.

@name mentioning like Telegram.

To notify someone about your reply, mention their name. Type @ to begin selecting a username. Just like in Telegram

Dynamic notifications

When someone quotes your post, we’ll notify you. When someone mentions your @name, we’ll notify you. When someone replies to your post… well, you get the idea. And if you’re not around, we’ll email you, too.

If you find that annoying, you are welcome to change the notifications settings on your user profile.

Summarize topics

Users can use the Summarize button to condense long topics to just the most interesting and popular post.

DAPPEOS is a simple, flat forum, where replies flow down the page in a line. Expand context at the bottom and top of each post, and also in quotes, to reveal the full conversation without losing your place.

Each each user can enable their own locale and the forum menus will change into your language. We are also looking at offering a translation service to automatically translate posts into your locale at a click of a button.
